Irish Deaf Golf Union (IDGU) was founded
in 1995 by some golfing enthusiasts with
about eight members at that time. IDGU has grown in strength
over the years
and now averages 35 members a year.
The Union organizes and runs the following tournaments for Men's
and Ladies
at various golf courses :
Captain's Day
Irish National Deaf Golf Championship
Connacht Deaf Golf Championship
Leinster Deaf Golf Championship
Munster Deaf Golf Championship
Ulster Deaf Golf Championship
The aim of IDGU is to encourage the maximum number of deaf
golfer to participate in a friendly sporting spirit and allow
members an oppurtunity to qualify in top ten order of merit to
participate World Deaf Golf Championship every two years.
As one of our objectives to bring an International Deaf Golf
competition to Ireland, we were delighted to host a major
International Deaf Golf competition for Men's and Ladies' at St.
Margaret's Golf Country and Club in County Dublin, on 29th July
to 2nd August 2002.
For Ireland to host their first ever-prestigious Deaf Sport
event, it was an excellent opportunity to increase Deaf
awareness in Ireland and Ireland's reputation in the Deaf Sports
World, as well as bringing in Business and Tourism to Ireland.
There is a report about the 4th world Deaf Golf Championship
as seen
